This weekend promises to be dry, sunny and an all around great weekend for watching the Drag Boats run at Lake Ming in Bakersfield. Lake Ming is home to some of the earliest Drag Boat races in the country. Check out the Top Alcohol Hydro’s running down the liquid quarter mile track at over 200 mph in 5 seconds. The action starts Saturday morning and continues throughout the day with qualifying of all classes. Then on Sunday morning the eliminations take place throughout the day and finish up with the Trophy presentations around 4:30 pm. minus the $1500 bounty.
KCS Electric coughed up $1500 and dangled it to entice TFH to participate in this weekends Drag Boat venue at Lake Ming Bakersfield. The pot showed promises of brimming over when teams suggested adding $500.00 each, winner take all. The bounty was conditional, a minimum of 2 Top Fuelers had to participate. The Fuelers, all under maintenance, had to decline the offer. Looks like Ken Simmonds, Racer and sponsor of TAF and TFH boats gets to put the $1500 away for a rainy day.
TFH Pilot Glen Wilson will be at the event, but had to leave his hotrod behind, awaiting a new rudder. Glen will be in Don Corbett’s pit, egging him on and enjoying his company. Don, will be showcasing a new boat in the River Racer class at this event.
There’s a wrinkled rookie getting licensed this weekend. Joe Blattler, a seasoned veteran, is moving on up. This will be the second time within a year Blattler has stepped up to a higher drag class level. Earlier this year he moved up to the Pro Mod, Pure Nasty, leaving his 7 second open boat behind. The TAH he will be driving, is the former Pro Mod, Pure Nasty, decked out in hydro attire, sporting Richard Townsend (engine builder) alcohol motor. Glenn Sweesy (owner) adopted the homeless engine about 3 weeks ago.
Mark Porter won’t miss this race. It’s the last one before Halloween and what would October be without a Monster TAF.
Pack up the family and take the drive to come check out the action. It’s like the NHRA on water. The NJBA website has admission costs and directions at njbaracing.net.
Be sure and look for live reports and race results from RAP, as the race unfolds
